Awards

SAVIAC recognizes outstanding achievement and service to the community through its awards.  SAVIAC has six major awards that are typically bestowed annually.  These awards are:  Lifetime Achievement, Mel Baron Medal, Legacy, Distinguished Service, "Henry Pusey" Best Paper, and Appreciation.  The descriptions, and list of winners, for these awards follow below.  Award charters are available upon request.

Lifetime Achievement Award

2011 - Nominations Open

This award is established by SAVIAC to honor individuals who, through a lifetime of professional dedication, have made outstanding contributions to the knowledge of, or practice in, the field of shock and vibration. 

Please view the award criteria when considering a nomination.  Those interested in submitting nominations should submit completed forms by July 31, 2011.  The nomination form can be viewed/completed in PDF or Word (must click "save" if opening in Word).  The award committee may contact the references indicated on the nomination package.

Mel Baron Award

2011 - Nominations Open

This annual award was established by SAVIAC in 1998 to recognize individuals who have made outstanding technical contributions to the field of shock and vibration in computational structural dynamics and related specialties. This award also may be given in recognition of an individual’s lifetime achievements whose cumulative effect has been to advance the state of the art in the field. Demonstrated personal leadership and contributions to the shock and vibration community are considered as well. 

This award was established by SAVIAC to honor Dr. Melvin L. Baron for his technical contributions and leadership in computational structural dynamics and related specialties in the field of shock and vibration.  Please view the award criteria when considering a nomination.  Those interested in submitting nominations should submit completed forms by July 31, 2011.  The nomination form can be viewed/completed in PDF or Word (must click "save" if opening in Word).  The award committee may contact the references indicated on the nomination package.

Legacy Award

This award is established by SAVIAC to honor individuals and decision makers who, through their leadership, direction, and commitment, have contributed significantly to the betterment and advancement of SAVIAC.  Such contributions should be of a critical nature to SAVIAC and should be of significance to the community for a period of at least 5 years.

Nominations can only be made by the SAVIAC Technical Advisory Group (TAG), the SAVIAC Directorship Team (currently USACE-ERDC), and/or the SAVIAC Operating Contractor Team (currently HI-TEST Laboratories).  The award criteria can be viewed here.

Distinguished Service Award

This award is established by SAVIAC to honor individuals who, through their generosity of time and efforts, have contributed significantly to the betterment and advancement of SAVIAC.  The Award is reserved for individuals who have provided significant support to SAVIAC for a period of at least 5 years.

Nominations can only be made by the SAVIAC Technical Advisory Group (TAG), the SAVIAC Directorship Team (currently USACE-ERDC), and/or the SAVIAC Operating Contractor Team (currently HI-TEST Laboratories).  The award criteria can be viewed here.

            Distinguished Service Award winners:

* Ms. Pusey presented "Appreciation Award" due to no other suitable award being available at the time.  Ms. Pusey's service merits the "Distinguished Service Award".         

 

Appreciation Award

This award is established by SAVIAC to honor individuals or group of individuals who, through their generosity of time and efforts, have contributed significantly to the betterment and advancement of SAVIAC.  The Award is reserved for individuals whose contributions are of the same order as that of a Keynote Speaker or Elias Klein Lecturer.

Nominations can only be made by the SAVIAC Technical Advisory Group (TAG), the SAVIAC Directorship Team (currently USACE-ERDC), and/or the SAVIAC Operating Contractor Team (currently HI-TEST Laboratories).  The award criteria can be viewed here.

 

Henry Pusey Award

81st Symposium - Nominations Open through June 30, 2011

The Henry C. Pusey Award is presented for the outstanding paper in the field of shock and vibration presented during the last calendar year.  The award is presented at the annual Shock & Vibration Symposium.

Criteria for Award: The paper would be well presented and well written in a manner consistent with the status of the award, and should make a significant technical contribution as well as advance the state-of-the-art in the author’s field.
