Numerical Method for Evaluating Debris size and velocity of Slab
Dr. Hyung Jin Choi, Karagozian & Case

Mr. John Crawford

Abstract:
Estimation of debris size and its velocity is key topic in blast effect analysis for structures.  To figure out secondary effect damage, it's more important to evaluate debris characteristics of subjected component to the blast directly.
Even with very expensive tests and analysis, there have hardly been figured out trend of the first component that may affect to the adjacent components.  Only very upper bound of the debris size would have been offered by a few design codes.  In this study, with the concept of maximum kinetic energy range (MKER) estimation of size and velocity of debris was suggested with simplified approach.  Though the methodology is simplified and conceptual, it can give reasonable supporting background and conservative values based on numerical calculation.
