Abstract:
Concrete, quasi brittle material, is well known as rate dependent under
extreme dynamic loading conditions and its failure process is influenced by
cracks. These characteristics can be modeled by incorporating appropriate
material model into dynamic analysis. In
this work, a plastic damage model is applied in a dynamic analysis to predict
damage and failure progression for concrete wall under blast load. Within the
framework of continuum damage mechanics, a modified plastic damage model for
concrete is presented, so called homogenized crack model (HCM). The HCM is
numerically implemented with the explicit finite element method. The effects of modified plastic damage model
are demonstrated through both simple single element analyses for concrete
materials and also structural level simulations of a concrete panel subjected
to various blast loading conditions. The results qualitatively illustrate the
value of HCM for concrete materials under extreme dynamic loading conditions.
