Derivation of the Ramp Invariant Filter
for Shock Response Spectrum Calculations
Mr. David Smallwood, Consultant
Abstract:
The ramp invariant digital simulation of a single Degree of freedom
resonator has become the de facto standard for computing the shock response
spectrum (SRS). The derivation of this filter is presented. The filter is also
compared the impulse invariant filter (the first digital filter used for SRS
calculations) and the bilinear transformation to explain why the ramp invariant
simulation was chosen. The strengths and limitations of the filter will be
discussed.
This material should be viewed as a tutorial for those who want to know the
details of the SRS calculation.
