Abstract:
This paper describes the ongoing ship shock trial modeling and simulation
effort being performed in support of the LPD-17 Class Ship Shock Trials,
currently scheduled for FY07. This live
fire event is being modeling in an underwater explosion virtual environment
following the same methodology first employed in conjunction with the DDG Class
ship shock trial simulation project conducted by the Naval Postgraduate
School. The ship structural model and
fluid mesh have been generated independently, using FEMAP and TrueGrid®, respectively, and then coupled together for
simulation using the LS-DYNA/USA solver. Key elements of the ship model and
fluid mesh generation process, along with relevant information from supplementary
studies concerning this unique modeling process will be presented. This is a work in progress and thus does not
constitute the final modeling products nor does it intend to show final results
for the pretrial predictions themselves, but rather is intended as an account
of the current project status.
