The annual Shock and Vibration Symposium is the leading forum for the structural dynamics and vibration community to present and discuss new developments and on-going research. The Symposium was established in 1947 and includes both classified and unclassified sessions. The classified sessions allow critical technology and classified (up to secret level) research to be presented in closed forums of cleared US Government and government-contractor researchers. Topics covered at the symposium include shock-ship testing, water shock, weapons effects (air blast, ground shock, cratering, penetration) shock physics, earthquake engineering, structural dynamics, and shock and vibration instrumentation and experiment techniques. Over 200 technical papers are typically presented. Panel discussions address topics such as new software developments or accelerometer isolation problems. Tutorials provide up-to-date technology overviews by leading specialists. The 76th Shock & Vibration Symposium is scheduled for the week of October 30 thru November 4, 2005 at the Hilton Sandestin Hotel in Destin, FL. The featured government agencies are the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center and The Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Headquarters. The featured companies are Weidlinger Associates, Inc. and MSC.Software. This will be your one stop shop for all the information and forms associated with the Symposium The following forms are to be used to submit programming. If they appear confusing, please call Joel Leifer, 301 596-0100, who will lead you to the appropriate form. Note that all participants must pay the registration fee. Abstract Submittal Form (Use this form if you are submitting abstracts for the Program Committee to place in an appropriate session. Do not use if your abstract is part of a dedicated session someone is arranging) Tutorial Submittal Form (Use this form to submit a description of a tutorial for the Sunday-Monday timeslots. Tutorials are normally 3 hours in length. While SAVIAC does not have the funding to compensate you for doing a tutorial, your registration fee to the Symposium will be waived.) Panel Form (Use this form to arrange for a two hour panel. You will need a title, names and affiliations of your panel members and a descriptive paragraph for the program on the topic the panel will discuss. Note that panels work best when the topic is controversial and you have all sides of the issue represented. Panels can be unclassified or classified. SAVIAC normally audio tapes all unclassified panels for inclusion in the proceedings.) Dedicated Session Form (Use this form if you want to organize your own session on a particular topic. Dedicated Sessions can be unclassified or classified but all material submitted via this form must be unclassified. You must have between 6-10 papers for a dedicated session. Training Track Form (Use this form for the 50 minute college level training presentations. No paper is required, but we do ask for your vu-graphs in advance so we can provide copies for the audience and put them on the proceedings CD. The purpose of this forum is to introduce people to new areas, not to present your latest work. In the 50 minutes allotted, you should provide a brief history, the major governing equations, resources for further education, what industries use it, and any limitations. Examples are Random Vibration, Acoustics, Pyroshock, Fatigue, Damping, etc.) Discussion Group Form (Use this form to gather a group of people together to discuss a topic of interest. You provide a title and a descriptive paragraph for the discussion here and come to the Symposium with an agenda to lead the discussion. Past examples have been Pyroshock, Data Analysis, UNDEX, Forming a New Committee, Monograph Update, etc.) Pre-Conference Program - This is an updated program subject to change Exhibitor Information - Exhibitors can download the entire package or individual pieces. A map of the exhibit area showing booth assignments is now available. Policies (Information concerning Foreign National attendance at classified sessions, payment, etc.)
